Food as Medicine: Nutrition, Lifestyle, Longevity, and Living Well

The growing fields of Food as Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine are transforming how we understand health, chronic disease, and healthy aging. Increasingly, research demonstrates that nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress management, social connection, and other lifestyle factors influence not only disease risk, but also quality of life, resilience, and longevity.
Join FoodLab at Stony Brook University Southampton for a multidisciplinary symposium examining the evidence supporting nutrition and lifestyle interventions as foundational components of health promotion and chronic disease management. Led by experts in Lifestyle Medicine and Nutrition, the program will explore the role of food and other modifiable lifestyle factors in supporting physical, cognitive, and emotional well-being throughout the lifespan.
Presentations will address the science behind healthy aging, strategies for preserving function and independence, and emerging approaches that integrate preventive care, nutrition, and lifestyle interventions into clinical and community settings. Participants will gain practical insights into how evidence-based lifestyle practices can help individuals live not only longer, but better—supporting vitality, purpose, and dignity throughout life.
The symposium concludes with a seasonal lunch inspired by Food as Medicine principles and an opportunity for discussion and networking.
